Africa! A Continent of vast proportions and diverse
peoples. Of scorching heat, darting geckos and Baobab trees. Where
music and rhythm are inherent. Where happiness is sharing the shade
of a Msasa tree with a few friends, and artistic creativity is as
natural as breathing. Vibrant, Colourful, Strong! Reflections of
Africa was born out of the African experiences of John and Rosemarie
Troughear.
Having lived amongst the indigenous African people
for many years, a deep appreciation and love for the people and
their earthy, lively art emerged. Many of these African people are
impoverished and their inspirational and original use of natural
and recycled materials is indeed a delight to behold. It is our
desire to ensure that the crafts people who design and manufacture
our craft items are adequately remunerated for their work, and Reflections
of Africa is totally committed to the principle of Fair Trade.
In seeking to improve the lives of the African
folk with whom we are involved, and to encourage the artistic appreciation
of their skills, we are delighted to bring you individually designed
quality African craft. Each item is carefully chosen for its originality,
innovation and quality, and is hand-crafted by indigenous craftsmen
and women. Zimbabwe is particularly noted for bold design in metal,
stone, fabric
and pottery and skilled techniques are handed down through the generations.
Our range includes metal bird sculptures for home and garden, vibrant
hand-painted fabrics, hand-painted 'bottle top' key
rings and fridge magnets, Shona stone
sculptures and innovative beaded wire
sculptures.
We are continually seeking to expand our range
for the discerning customer, and personal attention is assured.
